Overlapping Roof Slopes Filled with Warm Tile Colour
The red roofs fill the photograph from edge to edge, their slopes turning in different directions around the stone buildings. Pale chimneys rise between them, some plain and others capped with more elaborate shapes. I like the way the tiled surfaces create a strong overall pattern while every roof still has its own detail.
The nearest tiles are easy to follow individually. Their warm orange-red colour changes with the light, and darker gaps create fine parallel lines across each slope. Behind them, more roofs overlap at different angles, with dormers, windows and stone walls appearing in the spaces between. A few wires and aerials add smaller lines above the heavier masonry forms.
I photographed this Croatian rooftop view in 2020. Looking down keeps the sky outside the frame and concentrates attention on the buildings. The chimneys interrupt the repeated tiles, their pale, weathered surfaces providing a different texture. I like the contrast between those upright shapes and the many diagonals of the roof edges around them.
This red rooftop wall art brings warm colour and architectural detail to a living room, study or hallway. The photograph offers both a strong colour field from farther away and small discoveries up close: individual tile curves, dark windows, worn chimney caps and the changing directions of neighbouring roofs.
