Two Dubrovnik Windows Beneath a Line of Pigeons
A woman leans at an open window while a white cat sits among plants at the neighbouring sill. Above them, pigeons line the stone roof edge against a blue sky. I photographed this colour scene while walking Dubrovnik’s Old Town, noticing the birds first and then the two windows below. The warm limestone wall holds all three parts of the encounter in one view.
Standing across the street, I watched the arrangement come together. The woman’s raised hand holds a cigarette near her face, with a small flowering plant beside her. At the left window, the cat appears between several pots and leaves. Open shutters cast long, sharply patterned shadows across the wall, while the small supports beneath the roof make another repeating line. I liked how the architecture provided a steady frame for details that could change from one moment to the next.
The light gives the stone its warm texture and makes the darker window interiors especially clear. The pigeons remain small but distinct above, with a few gathered at the projecting corner on the right. I kept the sky in the photograph to give that upper line room. For someone drawn to everyday Mediterranean scenes, the image offers both architectural detail and a small human moment, with the cat adding another point to discover. For me, it recalls the few seconds before the scene shifted, when an ordinary Dubrovnik façade held a particularly pleasing balance of light, windows, people and birds.
