Blue Sky Reflection on the Chicago Bean Abstract Photography

A Curved Steel Edge Separates Sky from Reflected Clouds

A gentle curve crosses an otherwise blue field, separating the sky above from its reflection below. This close photograph of Chicago’s Bean concentrates on that small part of the sculpture, where clouds spread across the polished surface and take on a different shape. I wanted the reflection to carry the image, with the landmark’s outline reduced to one clean edge.

Above the curve, the sky is relatively open, with softer cloud traces near the left. Below it, the reflected cloud pattern becomes denser and more textured. The blue also deepens in places, creating a gradual shift across the surface rather than a single uniform colour.

That distinction gives the photograph its depth. The edge is clearly defined, but everything around it has a gentler quality. Fine streaks and patches of white move through the reflected blue, while the rounded form subtly changes how those shapes sit together. I find the effect compelling because the subject stays recognisable in context yet reads as an abstract arrangement on its own.

This is a quieter view of the Chicago landmark, focused on sky, surface, and a simple line. The print brings a cool blue presence to a room, with enough cloud detail to reward a closer look. Its strength lies in the relationship between the two areas of sky and the curve that holds them apart.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
