Carrick-a-Rede Fishing Hut Black and White Wall Art
A Weathered Window Above a Steep Northern Irish Cove
The wind was strong, yet this corner of Carrick-a-Rede felt remarkably quiet. The fishing hut stood close beside me, with a weathered window facing the steep cove and the sea below. I photographed the scene in Northern Ireland in 2019, drawn to that combination of exposure and stillness.
The hut’s pale wall fills the right side of the frame. Its uneven surface catches the light, while the darker window frame provides a clear shape within it. Cloud and landscape remain visible in the glass, adding a smaller reflection of the setting to the building itself. Below, rope netting follows the edge toward the water. On the left, the cliff has a much darker and more rugged texture, with patches of vegetation breaking up the rock. I kept both the near wall and the farther cliff in view because their relationship gives the hut its particular sense of place.
Black and white suited the atmosphere I wanted to retain. It lets the wall, window, netting, and rock stand apart through texture and contrast, while the water offers a quieter area between them. Standing there, I thought about the people who had used the hut and looked out through that window. This print holds something of that encounter: a close architectural detail within a larger coastal setting. It can appeal to someone drawn to Northern Ireland, fishing heritage, or photographs that find their strength in a quieter part of the landscape.
