Abandoned Saskatchewan Farmhouse Black And White Prairie Photography
Broken Wooden Walls Beneath A Wide And Streaked Sky
The farmhouse first appeared as a small shape across the Saskatchewan prairie. Coming closer revealed the broken siding, dark window openings, and a collapsed section at the right. I photographed it during my 2021 travels through the province, as part of a wider exploration of rural and abandoned places. The space around the building mattered as much as its condition, so I kept the open field and broad sky within the frame.
The house sits low in the composition, with its longer roofline extending toward the left and the taller gable facing right. A small dormer breaks the slope above the front wall. Missing boards expose darker areas beneath the siding, while fallen timber spreads out beside the damaged entrance. I like the contrast between that irregular detail and the almost uninterrupted horizon. The building gives the view a dense centre, but the surrounding prairie makes its scale and exposure clear.
Standing there, I heard the wind move through the grass and an occasional creak from the structure. Those small sounds are part of what I remember about making the photograph. Black and white brings the weathered wood and fractured surfaces forward, while the lighter sky keeps the view open. For me, photographing abandoned rural buildings begins with looking closely at what remains. This image holds that attention through visible details and the larger landscape around them. As prairie wall art, it suits a neutral or rustic interior, offering both the fine texture of the farmhouse and the spaciousness of Saskatchewan’s open country.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
