Weathered Gaspé Coastal House Black and White Photography
A Wooden House Between Wild Grass and the Pale Sea
A weathered wooden house stands above the sea in Saint-Georges-de-Malbaie, Quebec, its steep roof rising against a broad cloudy sky. I photographed it in black and white in 2015. The close texture of the boards and shingles contrasts with the softer water beyond, giving the building a strong presence within the open coastal setting.
Two windows flank the front door, with another set beneath the small central gable. The roof extends across the house in a series of slopes, and a chimney breaks its upper line near the right. Darker boards wrap around the side toward an adjoining section. Wild grass fills the foreground, interrupted by small trees at either edge. Behind the building, the horizon remains low enough for the shape of the roof to read clearly against the sky.
I stood in front of the house and worked with the scene as I found it. What held my attention was how much detail remained visible in a structure surrounded by such open space. The pale window trim gave me points to follow across the front, while the irregular tones of the wood kept that surface from becoming flat. Monochrome connects the house to the grass, sea, and clouds without losing their different textures. For me, the photograph holds the particular character of this part of the Gaspé coast in one modest building: a solid form, visibly weathered, set beside a much wider landscape.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
