Quebec Rail Bridge Steel Geometry Black and White Photography
Rails and Repeated Steel Trusses Converging Across a River
Rails and repeated steel frames converge toward the far end of this Quebec railway bridge. I photographed the span from a centred position in black and white, letting its symmetry and depth fill the view. The broad beams nearest the camera give way to smaller, overlapping shapes, creating a clear route through the structure.
Crossed braces span the upper portion of the frame, with triangular latticework contained within their heavier edges. Upright supports repeat down both sides, and narrow railings follow the same direction at deck level. Below, the wooden ties make close horizontal bands between the rails. The pale river surface and distant shore remain visible through the sides of the bridge, giving the darker steel and timber a lighter setting without drawing attention away from the central perspective.
I made this photograph while travelling through rural Quebec in 2015. Rain had left the ties and steel damp, and the softer distance helped the far end of the crossing remain distinct. What interested me was how the structure changed the sense of scale once viewed from within it. I aligned the rails and upper frames so their repeating geometry could lead toward the same vanishing point. Monochrome preserves that strong arrangement while leaving smaller textures visible across the nearer beams and deck. For me, the picture brings engineering into view through the experience of looking along a bridge: familiar individual parts becoming a much larger pattern through repetition and distance.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
