Province House Study and Old Books Black and White Photography
A Glimpse Through the Doorway at Books and a Worn Desk
Looking through a doorway inside Province House in Charlottetown, I found a small study filled with books and worn wooden furniture. I framed the photograph from that threshold, letting the door edges remain part of the view. In black and white, the books, desk, and patterned wallpaper form a close, detailed interior within a simple opening.
Several volumes rest flat across the desk, with more stacked and leaning on the shelves behind. Their pale page edges stand out against the darker wood. A metal pot and candlestick sit above the shelf, where curved trim interrupts the repeating wallpaper pattern. The desk’s rubbed surface and turned leg bring smaller variations into the lower part of the picture. At the right, the partly visible door and a draped table keep the room feeling enclosed.
During my visit in 2014, I spent several minutes watching the light move across the books and furniture. The intimacy of the room interested me as much as its individual objects. I wanted the photograph to feel like a glimpse taken while walking through the building, with enough detail to reward staying a little longer. Gentle light picks out the bindings and wood without flattening the darker areas beneath the shelves. For me, this view holds the quieter side of visiting a historic building: a modest interior where books and work surfaces offer a different way to notice the place. The doorway gives that small scene a frame of its own.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
