Province House Charlottetown Exterior Black and White Architecture Photography
Stone Columns and Repeated Windows Seen From the Lawn
Standing on the lawn outside Province House in Charlottetown, I chose an angled view that brought its columned entrance and long stone façade together. The black and white photograph follows the building from the portico at the left toward the nearer corner on the right. Rows of windows give the broad walls a steady pattern beneath the sky.
Tall columns support a triangular pediment above a lower arcade, creating a concentrated area of depth around the entrance. Along the adjoining wall, stone courses and window frames repeat more quietly. Small shrubs line the lawn below, their rounded shapes contrasting with the building’s upright edges. Branches enter at the upper right, and part of a neighbouring structure remains visible beyond the portico. These smaller elements keep the architectural view connected to its surroundings.
During my visit in 2014, I spent time watching the light move across the stone and noticing variations in its surface. The corner angle allowed me to include both the formal entrance and the simpler rhythm of the side wall. Monochrome brings their proportions forward without losing the darker window panes or the small shadows beneath the trim. What I enjoy about this photograph is how the building’s strong geometry sits within an ordinary stretch of lawn and trees. It records a recognizable Charlottetown landmark through the experience of standing nearby, looking upward, and following the lines that give the structure its character.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
