Bear Cub Resting on a Weathered Log | Colour Photograph
A Small Bear’s Head Against Warm Wood and Green Moss
A bear cub rests its head on a sloping log, looking towards the camera from a bed of dark fur and weathered wood. I photographed this quiet wildlife moment in 2011. The colour image keeps the warm grain of the timber and small patches of green moss around the cub, giving its rounded face a textured natural setting.
The composition follows the logs’ diagonal lines. One broad piece of timber rises beneath the animal’s head, while another crosses behind it. Their pale, broken surfaces contrast with the darker coat, allowing the cub’s body to remain clear even where its outline meets the wood. The small ears, eyes and muzzle become the most immediate details within that larger arrangement.
I enjoy how the different textures meet near the face. Fine fur gives way to coarse grain, splintered edges and soft moss. Natural colour helps distinguish those surfaces: the wood holds a warm brown-gold range, while the fur remains much deeper in tone. The lighter background timber also provides a gentle separation around the cub’s head.
What stayed with me was the simple resting posture. The photograph holds the small animal close enough for its expression and coat to matter, with the logs still occupying much of the frame. For someone drawn to bear portraits and quiet woodland subjects, this colour photograph offers a detailed, intimate composition. My eye keeps returning to the place where the muzzle meets the rough timber, a small point of contact that gives the whole image its calm direction.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
