Bodie California is America's Most Notorious Ghost Town
The California town of Bodie was created in 1859 during the Gold Rush period. Prospectors struck gold in what was known as the Mother Lode region of California. The gold rush town owes its name to one of the original four prospectors that discovered gold, W.S. Body. Unfortunately, he was killed during a massive blizzard just after finding the gold. As a tribute, the town was given the freshly settled district its name.
This panoramic photograph of the Bodie California ghost town (United States) is an excellent visualization of the town and its buildings as they stood over 100 years ago.
