British Columbia Black Bear and Water Spray Black and White Photography
Bright Droplets Surround Dark Fur in a Close Wildlife View
Bright droplets fill the air around a black bear, their small highlights scattered across the darker shape of its head and shoulders. I photographed this moment in British Columbia in 2011, keeping the foreground bear clear while another animal remains softly defined behind it. The closer bear’s muzzle points to the left, with its eye visible through the spray.
What I find compelling is the difference between the dense fur and the many separate points of light. The bear provides a solid form, while the droplets break the space around it into a much finer pattern. Some are sharp, others larger and softer, giving the image depth beyond the animal itself. Water remains visible along the lower edge, where reflections add another set of bright marks. Black and white allows all of those highlights to register against the dark coat without colour competing for attention.
The photograph holds a brief moment of movement within a closely framed wildlife view. My eye returns first to the face, then moves into the spray and the softer bear in the background. For someone drawn to Canadian wildlife and images with a strong sense of physical texture, this print offers both a recognisable animal portrait and a more intricate arrangement of light. Its dark subject and bright droplets remain clear across a room, while closer viewing reveals the fur and individual details within the water spray.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
