Every so often, I come across a scene that feels like it has been waiting patiently for someone to notice it. This old bicycle resting against a weathered wall was one of those moments. Nothing dramatic, nothing arranged—just everyday life standing still long enough for me to take it in. I’ve always been drawn to these quiet corners, places where age and use become their own form of storytelling.

What caught my attention first was the texture. The wall behind the bicycle is a map of peeling paint, sun-worn plaster, and moisture scars. It carries the history of seasons, repairs, and neglect, all layered together. The wooden door beside it adds another rhythm of wear, each crack and scrape showing how long it has stood there. The bicycle itself—bent fender, rusted spokes, softened grips—fits perfectly into that environment. It looks as though it has waited through years of humid mornings and long, hot afternoons.

Black and white feels natural for a scene like this. Without colour competing for attention, the eye settles into the surfaces, the shadows, and the tonal balance. Monochrome also brings a sense of time that colour can’t consistently achieve—it lets the viewer feel the age rather than see it. There’s a stillness in the frame I enjoyed working with, a sense that life has slowed just enough for reflection.

I created this photograph on location during my travels through India, walking through older neighbourhoods where the past hasn’t been swept away to make room for the new. These are the kinds of places where I like to take my time. I let the environment speak, and I wait for the right moment to connect with it. Each print of this piece is personally signed and includes a certificate of authenticity, reinforcing that what you’re receiving is rooted in a real place and a real encounter.
