Reflective Curves Above A Badge And Twin Mesh Openings
The bright metal is full of reflections, but the Auburn badge gives the eye a place to settle. I framed this vintage front end closely, keeping the ornament above it and the two dark grille openings below. In black and white, the photograph moves between smooth reflective surfaces and the fine repeated pattern of the mesh.
The badge is small compared with the surrounding metalwork, yet its lettering remains clear. A central ridge extends beneath it, dividing the grille and giving the lower half a firm structure. Above, the ornament sits on a rounded cap, with narrow highlights outlining its smaller forms. I like how these details occupy different scales: the lettering, the ornament, and the broad curved shell can each hold attention for a moment. The softened background keeps the nearer surfaces distinct, while a line of bright points recedes along the body toward the right.
This was a close encounter with the car, and I wanted the photograph to preserve the reason I stayed with it. The front end offers enough variation to work as a subject on its own. Its dark mesh balances the brighter upper surfaces, and the reflections introduce irregular shapes within an otherwise ordered design. Looking from the badge into the metal around it gives me both recognition and texture. The image retains the Auburn's identity while concentrating on the particular arrangement of light and surfaces that caught my attention.
