Threaded Rods and Heavy Metal Pieces Viewed From Above
Antique industrial tools lie together in a shallow metal tray, photographed from above in black and white. A long threaded rod crosses the upper part of the arrangement, with heavier shaped pieces and loose bolts below it. I kept the surrounding gravel visible, giving the worn metal a rough setting rather than a clean studio background.
The tray sits at an angle within the frame. Its straight edges provide a boundary for the irregular parts inside, while the long rod creates a strong diagonal. Curved openings, broad metal faces, and smaller threaded sections add different shapes without falling into a tidy display. Their overlapping positions are part of the photograph’s character.
I was drawn to the surfaces as much as the forms. Some areas are pale and scratched, others darker and more corroded. The light reveals those differences, especially where the pieces meet the smoother floor of the tray. Small marks and shadows help each object remain distinct even within the limited monochrome palette.
This is an industrial still life for someone who appreciates tools, workshop details, and the visual language of heavy metal. It does not depend on identifying every component or assigning a specific task to it. The arrangement is compelling through weight, shape, and wear. From a distance, the diagonal lines hold the composition together; closer viewing reveals the threads, edges, and uneven finishes that make the collection of tools worth studying.
