Towering Antarctic Iceberg Cliffs Black and White Wall Art
Sculpted Ice Faces Rise Above Dark Polar Water
The nearest ice wall rises almost the full height of the photograph, with deep grooves running down its face toward the dark sea. Behind it, a second wall recedes toward a snow-covered mountain. I made this Antarctic photograph in 2011, drawn to the ice’s structure and the way the different planes give the view its depth.
The right-hand face holds my attention longest. Its surface shifts between rounded hollows, narrow ridges, and broader folds. Light reaches each section differently, leaving some details pale and others in softer grey shadow. Near the waterline, a projecting edge creates a clear boundary above the darker sea.
Farther back, the other ice wall has a straighter upper edge and its own closely spaced channels. It gives the eye another surface to compare with the nearer face. The mountain beyond provides a final point of reference, while broken clouds leave both bright and darker areas across the sky.
I chose black and white because the photograph depends on form, scale, and tonal separation. The darker water anchors the lower edge, allowing the ice to dominate without losing its smaller details. The nearer wall keeps the view moving upward from the waterline to the top of the ice. This print offers a detailed polar landscape for someone drawn to Antarctica’s sculptural ice formations. It can make a strong sculptural presence in a room, with the larger shapes clear from a distance and the finer grooves rewarding a closer look.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
