Abandoned Hotel in BC's Inner Passage – A Forgotten Era
As I was boating up the Inner Passage on my way to photograph the spirit bears of British Columbia, I stumbled upon this captivating scene—an abandoned hotel that seemed frozen in time, and the foggy morning only deepened the aura of mystery surrounding the dilapidated structure. It sits quietly in British Columbia's Inner Passage, renowned for its ethereal landscapes.
From my sailboat, I captured the haunting beauty of the hotel's crumbling facade, which contrasted sharply with the vibrant life of moss and small trees that had taken root on the rooftop. The numerous windows hinted at myriad untold stories, and the giant trees surrounding the building stood as stoic guardians, further enriching the scene's eerie tranquility.
The building's wooden frame, peeling and fading into the earth, and the remnants of a dock in the foreground conjured images of a bustling past—echoes of laughter and clinking glasses seemed to permeate the mist. The shoreline of the Inner Passage cradled this scene, its waters a mirror of calm.
This fine art photograph invites you to ponder the lively celebrations that might have unfolded here decades ago. It draws viewers into its layered history and the natural reclamation, showcasing the unyielding passage of time and nature's power to reclaim human endeavors. The elements in this frame—the enveloping fog, the rampant overgrowth, and the serene decay—narrate a poignant tale of beauty found in abandonment.
