Abandoned Alberta Barn and Car Black and White Photography
Clouds Gather Above a Weathered Barn and Overgrown Car
I came across this Alberta farmstead during a cross-Canada drive, on an afternoon when the clouds looked heavy with the possibility of a storm. An old car sat in the grass before a weathered barn. I waited for the wind to ease and photographed the scene in black and white, keeping the open field and broad sky around the buildings.
The barn stands left of centre, its roof still making a clear peak above the worn boards. Gaps near the top let small patches of light through, while the lower openings remain dark. A fence runs across the middle of the scene, separating the barn from the car and giving the field a loose horizontal line.
The car is closer to the camera, with its pale body caught among tall grasses. The front has lost some of its shape, and the empty windows leave dark sections beneath the roof. I kept it small enough in the frame to remain part of the farmstead, rather than making a separate vehicle portrait. The grass continues around it into the surrounding field.
Above, the clouds take up a large part of the photograph. Their changing tones balance the texture below: rough wood, uneven vegetation and the damaged car. Trees along the farther slope give the view a distance beyond the abandoned buildings. This was a roadside discovery where the whole setting mattered, and I wanted the photograph to keep that sense of space.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
