Sault Ste Marie Industrial Building Black And White Photograph
Arched Windows And Stone Towers Viewed From Above
From this elevated viewpoint, an abandoned industrial building in Sault Ste. Marie becomes a layered arrangement of stone walls, flat rooflines, and tall towers. I photographed it in Ontario in 2011, choosing black and white to concentrate on its mass and repeated openings. The surrounding grass and access road give the structure room within the frame.
The building changes as the eye moves across it. A lower section spreads toward the foreground, with rows of arched windows and rough masonry. Behind it, taller walls rise in squared blocks, interrupted by narrow vertical openings. I wanted a perspective that made these different heights and depths visible together.
Light across the stone reveals small variations in the surface, while the windows read as darker shapes. The sky adds a lighter field above the roofline, with scattered clouds that contrast with the building’s firm edges. Around the base, grass and low growth provide a softer texture than the architecture. These differences help the structure stand out without removing it from its setting.
The photograph’s interest lies in that combination of scale and detail. The industrial building is substantial, but its individual windows, corners, and masonry patterns remain readable. Monochrome brings them into a shared palette and lets the geometry carry the image. For a space that suits architectural photography with a strong presence, this view offers an Ontario industrial scene shaped by repetition, texture, and the contrast between an empty site and a dense building.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
