Vintage Steering Wheel with a Center Clock | Automotive Photography
Bright Chrome Curves Against a Dark Instrument Panel
A small clock sits at the center of this vintage steering wheel, surrounded by bright chrome and a pale outer rim. I photographed the interior closely in black and white, with the dashboard’s long instrument panel stretching behind it. The view brings an unusual design detail forward while keeping the surrounding controls visible.
The wheel has several overlapping shapes. A broad pale arc crosses the upper left, thinner metal spokes meet near the clock, and a polished ring curves through the lower right. Dark ribbed grip sections add another texture along the rim. I like how these elements remain distinct even where they cross one another.
Behind them, the dashboard is more linear. A long speedometer strip runs across the top, with small knobs and a radio beneath it. The darker panel gives the chrome room to catch the light, and the close angle lets the clock remain readable as part of the wheel rather than as a separate object. The photograph has both the broad geometry of an interior and the finer detail of its controls.
For me, a feature like this is a reason to linger inside a classic car. It combines a practical instrument with the decorative presence of polished metal, making the steering wheel more than a simple circle. The close view suits an interest in automotive craftsmanship, especially the small decisions that give an older interior its character. I return to the clock first, then follow the chrome ring around it and back into the dashboard. Black and white keeps that movement clear, allowing the light and materials to carry the photograph.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
