Times Square Taxis and Bus at Night Colour Photography
Yellow Cabs Beneath Bright Signs in Manhattan in 2005
Walking through Manhattan with my camera in 2005, I photographed taxis and a bus beneath the bright signs of Times Square. The nearest cabs fill the lower part of the frame, with headlights shining towards the camera and coloured reflections crossing their bodies. Behind them, the bus gives the traffic a larger, more rectangular shape.
The signs make the night setting unmistakable. Red, blue, yellow and white light appears at different heights, drawing the eye upwards from the vehicles. A tall Kodak sign is especially clear on the left, while a large red display stands farther to the right. I like how those strong colours repeat in smaller reflections on the cars and bus. The buildings remain darker between the illuminated areas, giving each sign room to stand out.
My photograph keeps the traffic close rather than treating the lights as a distant skyline. The cabs are cropped by the foreground edges, which brings their shapes into the view immediately. Beyond them, more vehicles, signs and small figures continue along the street. The image records a particular Times Square night in 2005, including the advertising and vehicles visible at that time. For me, its character comes from the overlapping layers: taxi roofs and headlights, the bus behind them, and the bright signs rising through the darker city.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
