Indian Girl on Windowsill Black and White Portrait Photography
Directional Light And A Shadow On The Worn Wall
I found her sitting on the windowsill while walking near Pollenthai Beach in India. The scene was already there: a girl in a checked shirt, hands together in her lap, with low directional light reaching her face. I made the black and white portrait without arranging the setting or her pose.
I like the quiet balance between her direct gaze and the wall beside her. A dark opening remains behind the figure, while the lighter plaster gives her head and shoulder a clear edge. Her shadow falls onto that surface, repeating the outline of her face and adding a second shape within the frame.
The wall carries fine marks, scratches and uneven tones. Those details contrast with the shirt’s more regular checks and the softer folds below. I wanted the environment to remain visible because it was part of what stopped me during the walk, not simply a backdrop for the face.
Black and white brings the light and textures together without competing colour. The window ledge and full seated pose keep the portrait connected to the place, while the eyes provide its human focus. For me, the photograph holds a brief, unposed encounter: enough surrounding space to remember how I saw her, with the directional light giving that ordinary moment a clear visual structure.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
