Hartley Bay Spirit Bear by Mossy Stream Colour Wildlife Photography
Cream Fur Beside A Large Green Boulder And Fallen Wood
A seated spirit bear appears beside the stream, its cream-coloured fur set against a large moss-covered boulder. Branches and fallen wood fill the forest behind it, while water opens across the lower edge of the photograph. I made this image near Hartley Bay in 2011. The bear is a clear focal point, but the surrounding greenery gives the encounter much of its character.
I enjoy how the animal sits within the setting rather than filling it. The boulder occupies a generous part of the left side, with the bear tucked beside its rounded base. Darker branches and trunks cross the upper view. Their irregular lines make the softer outline of the bear easier to find, especially around the head and shoulders.
Colour connects the different layers. Bright green moss carries across rocks and wood, while deeper greens and browns give the forest background more depth. The bear’s pale coat introduces a warmer note, and the stream picks up some of the tones around it. Small stones and sticks at the water’s edge add details to explore after the animal has caught the eye.
For me, this photograph holds both a wildlife moment and a close view of the habitat around it. On a wall, I would choose it for someone interested in spirit bears, British Columbia or forest wildlife photography. The square composition leaves space for the bear, the boulder and the stream together. Its quiet appeal comes from that relationship between one distinct animal and the textured woodland surrounding it.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
