Bugaboo Snowfield and Rocky Slope Black and White Photography

Textured Snow Meeting Loose Stone Below Mountain Clouds

I kept this Bugaboo Mountains photograph close to the ground. Instead of a distant peak, the view follows a broad snowfield where it meets a slope of loose rock. I made the image in British Columbia’s Purcell Mountains, but its subject is a much smaller part of that landscape: the line between snow and stone, and the different textures on either side of it.

The snow occupies most of the left side. Its surface is not completely smooth; shallow hollows and softer ridges catch different amounts of light. I like those subtle grey variations because they give the bright area substance. To the right, individual pieces of rock create a much sharper, busier pattern. Their edges remain distinct even where the stones become smaller toward the upper part of the slope.

The boundary curves through the photograph rather than running in a straight line. It leads from the lower edge toward a narrow meeting of land and sky, bringing the two surfaces together as part of one view. Above them, scattered clouds offer another kind of texture, softer than the rock and more separated than the marks in the snow.

In black and white, I can give those differences room without relying on colour. The snow is the brightest large form, the rocky slope carries darker detail, and the sky provides space above both. This is what interested me in the scene: an alpine landscape described through a few ordinary surfaces, each with its own pattern and weight.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
