Antelope Canyon Abstract Rock Forms Black and White Wall Art
Ribboned Sandstone and Deep Shadows Inside the Canyon
Light travels through a narrow opening in Antelope Canyon, revealing curved sandstone surfaces between deep pockets of shadow. Fine bands wrap around the rock, changing direction as the walls fold inward. In this black and white photograph, the canyon becomes an intricate arrangement of lines, recesses and overlapping forms.
I found this view in 2007. What held my attention was the way the rock seemed to flow, even though everything in front of me was solid. One rounded edge gives way to another, and the lighter surfaces offer only a partial sense of what lies beyond. The tight view leaves out the wider landscape, keeping the experience inside the canyon walls.
Monochrome strengthens that feeling. Without the familiar warm sandstone colours, I can follow the bands more clearly as they sweep across each surface. Some are finely spaced and almost delicate; others fall into shadow and disappear. A projecting shape near the centre interrupts the lighter passage behind it, giving the photograph a strong point of tension.
This is natural abstraction with a clear sense of place. It will appeal to someone who enjoys the American Southwest, but also to a collector more interested in sculptural shapes and dramatic tonal contrast. I like that the image remains difficult to take in all at once. Each return reveals another curve or another illuminated strip of rock within the darkness.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
