Widened Tree Bases Above Long Reflections in Swamp Water
The reflections turn straight cypress trunks into wavering lines along the bottom of this photograph. I made this view in the Louisiana swamps, including the water beneath a closely spaced forest. The square frame holds the nearest trees and their mirrored forms together, with a pale trunk left of centre providing the strongest point of focus.
Above the water, the grove is filled with upright lines at different distances. Several trees widen into ridged bases, while thinner trunks remain visible behind them. I like how the brighter bark separates the nearer trees from the darker interior of the woods. Fine branches and hanging growth cross some of the gaps, adding smaller details within the repeated vertical pattern. The forest continues beyond the frame, giving the scene a dense, enclosed character.
The water introduces a different texture beneath all that solid wood. Narrow ripples break the reflected trunks into small bends, and pale flecks interrupt the darker surface. In black and white, those changes remain clear without competing with the shapes above. My photograph brings structure and reflection into the same image: firm tree bases at the shoreline and looser forms below them. For a room with neutral colours or someone drawn to wetland forests, it offers a detailed Louisiana nature scene with a strong rhythm. The repeated trunks make an immediate pattern, while the reflections provide a quieter area to explore more closely.
