British Columbia Bear Cubs in Tall Grass Colour Wildlife Photography
A Clear Young Face Above a Meadow of Fine Stems
One young bear looks out from the grass, its rounded ears and dark eyes clearly visible. A second cub is lower in the meadow, much less distinct behind the stems. I photographed these brown bear cubs during a remote wildlife shoot in British Columbia in 2011. I was watching from a distance, and the photograph holds a quiet interval rather than an obvious burst of action.
The grass is a major part of the image. Tall, fine stems rise across the frame, with a soft layer of pale yellow green in the foreground and more defined plants behind the cub’s face. I like how that layering makes the bear appear gradually: the eyes and nose establish the subject, then the ears and brown fur become clearer among the vegetation. The face sits to the left of centre, leaving a wider area of meadow on the right. Warm fur and green grass give the colour a gentle balance without needing a large view of the surrounding landscape.
What I value in this photograph is the attention it gives to a small, still presence within the field. The clearer cub provides the point of connection, while the partly hidden companion and surrounding stems invite a slower look. As wildlife photography for a wall, it offers both a recognisable young animal and a soft natural palette. I see it fitting a space where the greens and warm browns can carry a quiet mood. The details that remain with me are simple ones: the ears above the grass, the direct face and the many vertical stems around it.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
