Soft Surf Rolls Through Bands of Golden Reflection
Golden light spreads across small ocean waves in this close coastal photograph. Darker blue-grey ridges rise between the warm reflections, while a low line of foam rolls toward the shore. The view leaves out the sky and distant horizon, concentrating on the changing colours and textures of the water itself.
I am drawn to how the light breaks into bands. A gentle rise in the surface turns one area darker, then the next flatter patch catches the gold again. These changes make the water feel layered even without a wider setting. Fine ripples add detail within the broader movement of the waves.
The foam introduces a different texture near the bottom. Its small bubbles and uneven edge contrast with the smoother reflected light above. A second, thinner line continues toward the foreground, giving the image a quiet progression rather than one dramatic breaking wave.
I photographed this scene in 2013, looking at the ocean as a moving surface shaped by evening light.
The photograph’s appeal for me is in that balance of warmth and coolness: gold across the water, blue-grey within the waves, and pale foam along their edges. It is an ocean print with a calm rhythm, offering familiar shoreline detail while keeping the composition close enough for colour, texture, and reflected light to become its main subjects.
