Abandoned Indiana Homestead | Black and White Photography
Weathered Rural Home Slowly Returning to the Indiana Landscape
The roof looked as though it had finally surrendered.
I found this abandoned homestead in southern Indiana in 2007, sitting alone in a rural landscape with years of weather and neglect written across almost every surface. The corrugated metal roof had buckled and lifted away from its supports, while the long wooden porch sagged beneath a collection of objects that had simply been left behind.
That disorder is what caught my attention. Nothing about the building felt preserved or arranged. Weathered boards overlap one another, doors hang unevenly, windows sit behind rough shutters, and an old chair remains near the centre of the porch. The house seems caught somewhere between still being recognizable as a home and gradually becoming part of the landscape around it.
I chose black and white because colour was secondary to what interested me—the warped metal, aged timber, deep doorway, rough grass and the extraordinary accumulation of texture across the facade. The darker treatment also gives the open interior a sense of depth without trying to make the scene artificially dramatic.
I have always been drawn to abandoned places because time becomes visible in them. Materials bend, surfaces fade and ordinary objects remain long after their original purpose has disappeared.
For me, this Indiana homestead is less about imagining who once lived here than simply observing what remains: a fragile rural structure, exposed to the elements and slowly being transformed by age.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
