Peggy’s Cove Red Fishing Boats in Morning Light Colour Photography
Red Hulls and Weathered Sheds in the First Light
I had arrived at Peggy’s Cove before sunrise to photograph the lighthouse as the first warmth entered the sky. Once that part of the morning was over, I left my wife in our Sprinter van and walked alone into the fishing village. The light had reached the houses and sheds, but the harbour was still quiet, with nobody around. These two red boats gave me a different way to hold onto that early hour: close to the working waterfront, with the village rising behind them.
The colour moves through the photograph in distinct patches. Red hulls sit against the dark water, white cabins catch the light, and the blue-green house above the sheds adds another strong note. I included the traps and ropes along the left edge because they belong to the setting, but let the boats carry the centre of the composition. Weathered shingles, pale rock and small windows give the buildings plenty of texture. Below them, gentle ripples loosen the reflections into broken vertical marks rather than a perfect mirror.
I like the contrast between the familiar postcard view of Peggy’s Cove and this quieter corner of the village. After working around the lighthouse, I could look more slowly here. The open blue sky gives the harbour room, while the rocks at the lower right bring the foreground close. For me, the photograph keeps the warmth of that morning without losing the practical character of the boats, sheds and equipment beside the water.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
