Shibuya Multicolour Graffiti Wall II Abstract Urban Photography

Fine Writing and Bold Outlines Across the Stairwell Wall

This section of a Shibuya stairwell wall is crowded with small marks rather than a single dominant image. I photographed the graffiti in colour, framing a broad field of pink, turquoise, yellow, and green threaded with names, loops, and sketches. Larger black outlines near the upper right give the busy surface a contrasting weight, while pale writing spreads across the rest of the frame.

I made the photograph while exploring the passage between several floors of shops in Tokyo. People continued to move through the stairwell as I worked, and I concentrated on sections where the accumulated marks formed a composition of their own. In this view, the differences in line thickness interested me most. Fine lettering creates a closely woven texture, interrupted by heavier strokes and small areas where brighter paint remains visible. I kept the surrounding architecture outside the frame so the wall could be read as a continuous surface.

Looking at it slowly changes the experience. What first appears to be an even spread of colour breaks into many individual gestures, some partially covered, some still distinct. I enjoy finding those small shifts without needing to read every word. The wall’s physical texture remains visible beneath the paint, reminding me that this is a photograph of a real place rather than a flat graphic design. As the second image in my Shibuya stairwell series, it offers a particularly dense view of the surface. It suits someone drawn to colourful graffiti photography, layered urban textures, and abstract images that keep revealing new details.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
