1971 Plymouth Cuda 383 Door Decal Colour Automotive Photography

Bold Yellow Numerals Beside a Reflective Chrome Handle

Three tall numerals dominate this close view of a 1971 Plymouth ’Cuda. I photographed its 383 door decal in 2013, drawn to the bold lettering and the way it sits within a dark side panel. Bright yellow paint surrounds that panel, giving the image a strong colour contrast before the smaller details begin to emerge.

The numbers have rounded corners and narrow outlines, repeating a shape across the left side of the frame. Their height makes them feel almost architectural. I like how the dark panel widens towards the right, creating an angled setting for the lettering and carrying the eye across the door. The composition is built around those few large forms.

A chrome handle adds a different kind of surface. Its bright edges, small keyhole and darker recess introduce reflections into an otherwise graphic arrangement. A soft horizontal change in tone crosses the panel beneath it, giving a subtle sense of the door’s shape.

For me, this photograph shows how a small part of a car can hold a complete visual identity. The yellow, dark panel and polished handle each have a distinct role, and together they make an unmistakable automotive detail. As a colour print, it brings a vivid focal point to a collection of classic car photography or a space with an interest in bold design. The tightly framed decal rewards both a quick glance and a closer study of its curves and surfaces.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
