British Columbia Spirit Bear on Stream Rocks Black and White Wildlife Photography
Pale Fur Against Rounded Stones And Flowing Water
The Spirit Bear stands on a cluster of rocks with its head turned toward the water on the right. Its pale coat separates clearly from the darker stones and stream around it. I photographed this bear in British Columbia in 2011. The close view gives the animal a strong presence while keeping the texture of its surroundings visible.
The broad curve of its back leads toward the smaller head and rounded ears. Long strands of fur hang along its side, contrasting with the firmer outline of its legs and paws. I find that change in texture especially appealing in black and white. The coat holds delicate shades of grey rather than appearing as one flat pale shape.
Rocks fill much of the background, with irregular gaps and smaller stones creating a busy surface behind the bear. Below it, shallow water passes between the larger boulders. The stream continues to the right, leaving a little open space in front of the animal’s face. That space helps the direction of its gaze become part of the composition.
The photograph brings together several kinds of detail: soft fur, rough stone and the changing marks on flowing water. My attention returns to the bear first, then follows those surrounding textures. For someone with an interest in Spirit Bears or British Columbia wildlife, it offers a grounded portrait within a rocky stream setting. The horizontal frame allows the whole animal and nearby water to remain part of the same view.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
