Gdansk Main Town Hall Clock Tower Black and White Night Photography
Illuminated Brickwork and Ornament Against a Dark Sky
The illuminated clock tower of Gdansk’s Main Town Hall rises into a nearly black sky in this night photograph. Its large round clock face provides a clear focal point beneath the more intricate upper stages of the tower. I photographed the building from below, bringing the adjoining facade into the lower part of the frame while leaving open darkness around the spire. That space gives the tower’s changing outline room to remain distinct.
Light reveals the brickwork and repeated narrow arches across the front of the building. Small circular details and tall window openings create several different rhythms within the facade, while corner turrets add darker shapes along its edges. I find the contrast between those regular rows and the elaborate tower particularly effective. The eye can begin at the windows, move toward the clock, then continue through the smaller ornamental levels above.
Black and white makes the lighting central to the view. Bright sections of the wall stand forward, while recesses and unlit details remain deeper in tone. The photograph keeps enough architecture below the clock to show its relationship with the rest of the town hall, rather than presenting the tower alone. As a print, it would suit someone interested in Gdansk or Polish architecture, offering a strong vertical landmark and fine detail within a restrained night palette.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
