Sleeping Man at a Buenos Aires Restaurant Table Monochrome Photography

A Bowed Head Beside a Restaurant Wine Bottle

Before departing on my Antarctica expedition, I spent time exploring Buenos Aires. During a meal in a local restaurant, I noticed an older man dining alone who fell asleep at his table. I made this photograph from behind and to one side, keeping his bowed head and shoulder on the left and the items on the table to the right. It was a small observation during that visit, far from the landscapes I would soon be travelling south to photograph.

The composition depends on the space between the man and the bottle. His light hair catches the light against the rough wall, while the wine bottle forms a dark upright shape beside him. A small condiment container and a fork remain visible along the lower edge. I kept much of the textured wall in the frame because its uneven tones connect the two sides without adding another subject. The subdued monochrome treatment brings the details into a common palette, letting the curve of his shoulder and the straight bottle stand apart.

I have often been drawn to ordinary moments when travelling with a camera. Here, I wanted to preserve what was in front of me: a restaurant table, a resting diner, and a few simple objects. The photograph leaves room to look without needing a larger event or an explanation of the man’s life. For a study, dining room, or restaurant interior, it offers a quiet piece of documentary photography from Buenos Aires. The close framing keeps attention on that brief moment and the visual relationship between the figure, tabletop, and wall.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
