Bugaboo Snowfield Textures and Distant Peaks Black and White Photography

A Rippled Snow Surface Beneath a Narrow Mountain Skyline

I think of this as a snow landscape first. The Bugaboo peaks remain visible along the far edge, but most of the photograph belongs to the textured snowfield in front of them. Small ridges and hollows cover the surface, creating a close pattern that becomes finer as it rises towards the distant mountains.

I photographed the view with the snow sloping across the frame from left to right. That broad diagonal sets the direction of the composition, while the smaller surface shapes give it detail. Light catches their upper edges and leaves soft grey shadows beside them. I find the effect almost wave-like, although the subject is a high mountain snowfield in British Columbia’s Purcell Mountains. The uneven peak outlines add a sharper pattern along the horizon, breaking the long pale slope with a narrow band of dark rock.

Clouds fill much of the space above those peaks, with open sky appearing between their brighter shapes. Black and white connects the sky and snow through light, while the mountain ridge separates them. My view allows the eye to begin with the closest surface details, then move towards the distant skyline. The photograph holds that change in scale together: many small snow shapes, a single broad slope and a row of peaks beyond it. Its character comes from how those layers share the frame.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
