Orange Maple Leaf Over Yellow Autumn Foliage Algonquin Colour Photography
A Broad Warm Leaf Above Pale Shapes and Dark Gaps
The orange maple leaf spreads across the centre like a broad fan, its red stem continuing toward the bottom edge. Smaller yellow and pale leaves surround it, with dark spaces separating the overlapping shapes. I photographed this autumn detail in Algonquin Park in 2021, drawn to the bright colour of one leaf within a softer arrangement.
Its surface is not a single flat orange. Red follows parts of the veins, darker speckles gather across the upper points, and lighter edges catch the light. Those variations give the central leaf its character. I wanted the photograph to show them clearly while keeping the neighbouring foliage in the frame.
The surrounding leaves add a different scale and shape. Some are rounded, others pointed, and several are partly hidden beneath the larger maple leaf. Fine stems cross the gaps between them. This close view allows the eye to move through a small area slowly, noticing how colour and texture change from one surface to the next.
I was captivated by how strongly the orange stood out against the more subdued leaves. The picture keeps that simple observation at its centre. As wall art, it would bring a warm seasonal accent to a kitchen, hallway or reading room, particularly alongside natural wood. Its horizontal format and detailed surfaces make it an inviting close nature study as well as a bright impression of fall.
