Nackawic Giant Axe Monument Black and White Sculpture Photography
A Textured Metal Blade and Long Handle Beneath Open Clouds
At the base of Nackawic's giant axe monument in New Brunswick, I worked the angle until its blade and long handle opened clearly against the sky. This black and white photograph gives the sculpture most of the frame, with the park and distant trees remaining low behind it. The close viewpoint brings its metal surface into sharp attention.
Light scatters across the broad face of the blade, picking out a dense pattern of circular marks and brighter patches. Its curved cutting edge reaches toward the left, while the handle runs diagonally upward to the right. The darker underside gives the head a sense of thickness, and the small plaque on its face offers a familiar detail within the much larger form. Below it, the circular base spreads into the foreground and holds the shadow of the sculpture.
I wanted the photograph to show more than the outline of an oversized tool. Being close let me see how the bright metal, deep underside, and smooth handle worked together as separate shapes. The clouds add another pattern without obscuring the axe, and the trees around the park provide a useful sense of setting. I like the movement from the textured blade across that open sky, where a simple diagonal becomes the strongest line in the scene.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
