Gold and Brown Leaves Surrounding a Bright Curled Centre
The orange maple leaf sits among darker brown and yellow leaves, its curled points catching the light above small gaps of water. A long stem reaches across the left side, and a pale leaf near the top adds another tone to the warm arrangement. I photographed this close view in Algonquin Park in 2021 because the mixture of colours caught my attention.
What interests me is how the central leaf stands out without leaving its surroundings behind. Its orange surface is marked with deeper patches, while the nearby leaves show fine veins, irregular edges and small dark spots. Water gathers between them, reflecting a few cooler highlights that balance the burnt orange and gold. I wanted to keep those details together rather than simplify the scene into a single clean leaf. The picture retains the overlapping, uneven arrangement that made this small autumn subject worth a closer look.
The photograph reminds me of the last strong bursts of colour before the season changes again. Its horizontal composition offers a concentrated nature study rather than a distant landscape, with plenty of texture from one edge to the other. As wall art, it would bring warmth to a kitchen, reading space or room with wood furnishings. The bright central leaf gives it an immediate focal point, while the surrounding leaves and reflected water offer smaller discoveries over time.
