Sydney Harbour Window Reflections Black and White Photography

Restaurant Glassware and Chairs Layered Over Sunlit Water

A restaurant table seems to sit inside the harbour. Glasses, chairs and blinds overlap the water and distant buildings, creating a layered view through the window. I was standing outside the restaurant just before sunset when I noticed this brief meeting of the interior and the reflected Sydney waterfront.

The table gives the photograph a clear foreground structure. Its upright support, glassware and small shakers remain visible, while the water passes through the same area as a bright, rippled surface. Chairs add darker shapes beneath and beside it. Above, horizontal blinds cross the sky and buildings, making the two spaces harder to separate. I enjoy following those lines until an ordinary furnishing becomes part of a much less ordinary arrangement. The light on the harbour is especially useful because it draws the eye through the interior detail toward the view beyond.

I took this photograph in 2016, catching a reflection that changed quickly with the light and my viewpoint. What interested me was how the window brought separate subjects into one image without needing to move or arrange anything. Black and white connects the glass, water, furniture and skyline through their brightness and shape. The photograph rewards a slower look: first a table, then the harbour, then the moment when both seem to occupy the same space. I wanted to preserve that uncertainty alongside the recognizable objects that make it possible.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
