Fall Foliage Above Still Water and Hanging Moss
Orange autumn foliage spreads across a stand of cypress trees above dark, still water. I made this colour photograph in 2021, capturing the warm canopy, pale trunks, and long curtains of hanging moss. The woodland fills the frame, with a narrow band of reflection along its lower edge.
The trees form a dense, layered pattern. Some trunks are easy to follow from the waterline into the branches; others disappear behind foliage and moss. The orange leaves are brightest near the top, while the spaces between the trees grow darker toward the centre. That contrast gives the scene depth without needing an open sky or a distant horizon.
I like how many different lines appear within this view. Upright trunks provide a steady structure, branches cross them at irregular angles, and hanging moss creates finer vertical strands. The water simplifies that complexity into softer bands of brown and gold. Its quieter surface gives the eye a place to rest beneath the detailed woodland.
The photograph holds the richness of autumn while keeping a subdued, earthy palette. It rewards a closer look at the trunks and moss as much as an overall appreciation of the colour. As nature wall art, it can bring warm orange tones to a living room, study, or cottage. For someone drawn to cypress wetlands, forest textures, and seasonal change, it offers a calm view with plenty of detail to explore.
