Golden Light Filters Through Cypress Branches and Moss
Here, the sunset comes through the trees. A low sun shines between cypress trunks on Caddo Lake, turning the water gold while the treeline becomes a dark, intricate silhouette. I liked how the branches break up the light, giving this lake view a more enclosed feeling than an open-horizon sunset.
The two larger trees establish the main shape of the scene. Their spreading crowns reach towards one another, with hanging moss adding finer lines beneath the branches. Smaller trees gather behind them, creating a dense backdrop without hiding the brightest part of the sky.
Below, the reflections are long and slightly irregular. Gentle ripples turn the trunks into wavering dark bands and scatter the sun’s reflection across a narrow area of water. The surface keeps the golden colour but changes the more solid shapes above it.
I wanted enough water in the frame for that second pattern to become important. The photograph holds the treeline and its reflection together, with the sun linking the two near the centre. Darker patches around the edges help the light feel concentrated rather than evenly spread.
Caddo Lake’s cypress landscape gives this moment its distinct character. The trees are as important as the sunset, and the moss contributes to the layered atmosphere. For me, the photograph offers a warm, quiet encounter with a wetland at evening, where light finds its way through a complicated natural structure and settles into the water below.
