Wooden Chairs in Ishikawa Black and White Interior Photography
Five Worn Chairs Beneath Dark Framed Japanese Windows
Five wooden chairs and a long table caught my attention while I explored a traditional building in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. Nothing was happening in the room; the interest came from the furniture, the window frames, and the surfaces around them. I spent time looking at the repetition, then used an angled view to let the chairs recede along the wall. The nearer chair remained large enough to show its grain while the others established a steady rhythm behind it.
The table crosses the foreground diagonally, its broad planks marked by knots, grooves, and small irregularities. Behind it, the chair backs repeat the same simple pattern of upright slats, though their surfaces vary in tone and wear. The plaster wall has a mottled texture that contrasts with the more clearly defined grain of the wood. Above, dark window frames form another band of rectangles, giving the furniture a setting without opening the composition to the rest of the room.
Black and white brings those different textures into close relation. The table catches more light than the seats, and pale marks along the chair edges separate them from the wall. I made this photograph in Japan in 2025, stopping for a detail that might otherwise have been easy to pass. What I like is how the repeated shapes remain simple while the surfaces become more complex on closer inspection. The picture holds an ordinary interior through its tangible materials: worn wood, uneven plaster, and dark frames above a row of empty chairs.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
