Tuscan Wooden Door With Cross Detail Black And White Photography

A Narrow Door And Barred Window In Rough Stone

A small cross-shaped detail on this wooden door gives the scene its point of focus, but the surrounding stonework is just as important to me. The narrow entrance sits to one side of a barred window, making an uneven arrangement that feels both simple and absorbing. I photographed this Tuscan facade as a close study of surfaces and proportions.

Broad stone blocks frame the door, setting a clean rectangle within the rougher wall. Across the dark wood, horizontal divisions contrast with the long upright sides of the doorway. The small metal detail is easy to miss at first; once noticed, it draws the eye back into the centre of the entrance.

The window adds a different rhythm. Its square grid holds a dark recess above the pale, irregular masonry, while changing block sizes and patches of mortar keep the wall from becoming repetitive. Along the bottom of the photograph, darker marks on the pavement provide another loose pattern. I like how many textures can coexist within such an ordinary view.

Black and white lets those textures take precedence over colour. It also brings the door and window together through their darker tones, with the brighter stone linking the whole facade.

Made in Tuscany in 2010, this photograph offers a restrained piece of Italian architectural wall art. It suits someone who enjoys old doorways, worked stone and small details discovered on foot, with enough contrast to hold its own in a study, hallway or quiet living space.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
