Hanoi Airport Seated Silhouette Black and White Photography

A Small Figure At The End Of Repeating Lines

On my way to board a flight at Hanoi Airport in Vietnam, I stopped for a photograph that lasted only a moment. A seated airport attendant appeared at the far end of a dark passageway, outlined by the light beyond. I had my camera with me, as I nearly always do when travelling, and raised it before the balance of the scene changed.

The corridor does much of the work in this black and white image. Vertical wall panels narrow into the distance, while the floor edges and overhead grid lead toward the chair. Reflections carry thin bands of light along the metal walls. I kept the long foreground because it makes the person’s small scale unmistakable.

The attendant sits just to the right of centre, head lowered, with the chair and feet separated from the brighter floor. That slight displacement matters to me. The architecture is almost symmetrical, but the human presence interrupts its order and gives the eye somewhere to settle.

I wanted the shadows to remain deep enough that the light feels concentrated at the end of the passage. Black and white brings the structure, posture and reflections together without competing colour. Seen from a distance, the photograph has the clarity of a geometric composition; close up, the small seated figure changes its character. It preserves an ordinary pause within a place usually experienced in motion.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
