Currie Nevada General Store With Pepsi Sign Black and White Photography
A Shaded Porch Beneath Scattered Clouds and Utility Wires
A Pepsi sign remains high on the facade of this abandoned general store in Currie, Nevada. Beneath it, a narrow porch shades the worn entrance and windows, while the open roadway gives the small building plenty of space. I photographed the store in 2022, drawn to the contrast between its modest scale and the broad landscape around it. The ordinary details of the storefront gave the scene a particular, recognisable character.
The gabled wall carries pale siding, with darker weathered wood around the door. Slender posts support the porch roof, and their shadows divide the frontage into distinct areas of light and dark. I find the sign especially engaging above that arrangement: a familiar commercial mark still fixed in place, surrounded by the textures of an older wooden building.
To the right, a row of smaller structures extends toward the low hills. Their simple roof shapes repeat at intervals across the dry ground. A tree fills the left edge, balancing the open space around the store, while utility wires cross the sky above it. Scattered clouds add a softer pattern over the settlement.
Black and white brings the siding, porch shadows and open sky into clear tonal relationships. The wide view lets the building remain the focus while showing the landscape that gives it context. As a print, this photograph suits an interest in Americana, abandoned storefronts and the small roadside places of the American West.
