Wagon Wheel Rim in Shadow Black and White Abstract Photography

A Narrow Curve of Light Across a Dark Wheel

Only part of the wagon wheel is clear in this photograph. A narrow band of light follows the rim’s curve, while most of the surrounding form recedes into shadow. I made the view close enough for that edge and the worn surface beside it to become the subject. The wheel is still recognisable, but its familiar circular shape is reduced to one curved section within a dark field.

The illuminated edge is not perfectly smooth. Fine irregularities catch the light, and a joint crosses the rim near the lower part of the view. I like how those small details keep the form connected to an actual object. On the right, a quieter piece of the wheel extends into the darkness, while softer grey areas remain visible behind the rim. They give the sharper curved edge a setting without competing for attention.

Black and white allows the photograph to depend on those few differences: a bright line, a dark surface and a less distinct background. I wanted to leave enough shadow for the eye to move slowly through the image. The rim does not reveal all its detail at once; some of it becomes clear only after following the lighter edge. Looking at the finished photograph, I return to that relationship between a simple curve and a surface with its own small marks, joints and variations.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
