Amber Light Filters Through Branches Into Shadowed Grass
I watched the sun sink behind the acacia trees in Tanzania’s Serengeti, turning the sky amber and leaving the lower grassland in shadow. This colour photograph keeps that warm light at the centre of the scene. The broad tree on the left has a dense network of fine branches, while flatter canopies spread across the space beside it.
The sun is partly hidden, but its light still reaches through gaps in the trees. Near the ground, illuminated dust gives the air a softer appearance, separating some of the trunks from the darker background. I was drawn to that layer of warmth beneath the canopy as much as to the bright sky above it.
Dark branches make a delicate pattern against the amber tones. Closer to the camera, grass and low shrubs become less distinct, creating a quiet base for the image. Farther back, the trees overlap in smaller shapes. The colour remains restrained: gold and orange in the light, with brown and deep shadow across the land.
Standing there, I wanted to stay with the changing light rather than look for something else to photograph. The view had enough detail in the branches to keep my attention, yet its overall feeling was calm. I kept the trees together in the frame because the differences between their crowns are part of that evening scene. The image holds the last warm light passing through them, with the darker grassland still visible below.
