Electric Guitar Strings in Shadow Black and White Photography

Bright Frets Rise Above a Body Fading Into Black

The strings are the brightest path through this electric guitar photograph. I used soft directional light to bring them forward while allowing much of the body to fall into shadow. In black and white, the instrument becomes a spare arrangement of parallel lines, round fret markers and a curved edge emerging from a dark background.

I wanted attention to stay on the guitar’s physical shape before any music was played. The neck rises diagonally through the portrait frame, with the frets crossing the strings at regular intervals. Pale circular markers break that grid into smaller sections. Below them, the pickup adds another dark rectangle with a few small highlights along its face.

The body has a quieter role. A patch of light reveals its rounded shoulder and a little of the surface texture, then fades toward the outer edge. The pickguard remains dark, defined mostly by its outline and a handful of bright fittings. Keeping those areas subdued gives the thin strings enough space to carry the composition.

I find the photograph most interesting where the instrument almost disappears. The shape is still readable, but I have to follow the light to see how its parts connect. That restraint lets a familiar electric guitar become a study of line and shadow. It is a close view of an object made for sound, held here in a moment of visual quiet.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
