Saint John Blue and Red Doors in Tree Shadow Photography
Leaf Shadows Across Two Colourful Saint John Entrances
Tree shadows were what set these Saint John doorways apart for me. The paired entrances have a strong, orderly structure, but the broken light moves across the brick, steps, and painted wood in an irregular pattern. I photographed them together, keeping the blue doorway on the left and the red doorway on the right within a square frame. Leaves enter from above, connecting the shade on the building to the tree beside the street.
I found this location after a long walk through Saint John, New Brunswick, when the photographs I hoped for were still proving elusive. During a stop at a local art gallery, I began talking with the curator, who was also a photographer. He recommended a street lined with old houses. Following that suggestion brought me to entrances like these, where the interest was in the smaller architectural details rather than a sweeping view of the city. It was a useful reminder of how a conversation can change the direction of a walk with a camera.
The doors reward a closer look. Raised wooden panels repeat beneath dark glass, while curved brick arches sit inside heavy dark trim. Stone steps rise from the pavement, divided by a central railing. I liked the way the warm brick supports both colours without competing with them. The shadows deepen the right side and cross the foreground, softening the symmetry. As architectural wall art, this photograph offers the texture of an older Canadian streetscape, with painted doors and leafy shade giving the paired entrances their particular character.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
